Germany imports horticultural plants for USD 3.2 billion a year, the British for 1.6 billion. The Dutch are a tycoon on the European market. The offer of Polish companies is getting better every year, and our plant exports are constantly growing, which can be seen at the Gardenia fair taking place in Poznań from February 21 to 23, 2019.

Gardenia fairs are taking place in Poznań. These are one of the most beautiful events organized by the MTP Group and ... one of the most promising in terms of business. Polish gardening business is flourishing. Growers from Poland are taking advantage of the improving economic situation in the country and the growing demand for horticultural plants, but this is only one of the driving forces in the development of the industry. Exports already amount to almost USD 230 million annually compared to USD 207 million in 2016 and USD 176 million in 2015. However, we still import more plants than we sell abroad (in 2016 for over USD 300 million) - according to the data of the analytical company InfoCredit .

The Netherlands is a tycoon on the European garden plants market. It is from this country that we import the most plants, for as much as USD 219 million per year. Debt netherlands, nothing long. Germany is second among suppliers, from where we import plants for USD 30.8 million, and Denmark - (USD 13.8 million).

It is difficult to compete with Dutch breeders on the most important European markets. They have a very strong position in the richest and most promising countries of our continent. The value of Dutch companies' sales to Germany is over USD 2.6 billion, which is over 80 percent. all horticultural plants bought by our western neighbors. For comparison - Denmark, which is number 2 in the ranking of exporters to Germany, sells plants for about USD 120 million (yes, millions). Among suppliers to Germany, Poland ranks fifth with sales of USD 34.5 million. The Dutch play the first violin on most European markets. This does not mean, however, that we do not export to the Netherlands. We sell plants for USD 45 million a year.

The dominance of the Dutch in Europe does not mean, however, that Polish producers are doomed to failure. On the contrary - they are doing better and better at export. In 2017, the export of garden plants to Belarus increased by as much as 100 percent, to almost USD 50 million. Customers from Belarus practically compensated Polish entrepreneurs for the decrease in sales to Russia (-56 percent in 2017). Our sales to Western markets are growing regularly - in 2017 to the Netherlands by 27 percent, and to Germany by 10 percent. In Denmark and Lithuania we are in the top three suppliers, in Germany and Hungary in the top five, and in Italy and Austria in the top six. Western countries are the most promising markets for Polish breeders. Germany imports horticultural plants for USD 3.2 billion a year, the British for 1.6 billion, and the French for 1.2 billion.
